Mission Statement: Meals-on-Wheels Greater San Diego, Inc.’s (MOWGSD) primary mission is to support the independence and well-being of seniors by providing the daily delivery of affordable, fresh meals to homebound seniors throughout San Diego County.  In addition to meal delivery, MOWGSD conducts regular wellness checks with each senior served and makes the appropriate referrals to other providers if necessary.  Each delivery and wellness check is accompanied by the warm and caring support of a trained volunteer who makes the extra effort to engage in meaningful social interaction to alleviate the social isolation many homebound seniors experience.

Advancing Health and Wellness:  The services MOWGSD provides to seniors are vital to both their physical and emotional well-being.  Homebound seniors are susceptible to food insecurity and isolation due to chronic illness and disease combined with an inability to be mobile.  Without proper nutrition and social contact, older adults are more susceptible than any other age group to illness, disease and physical and emotional health issues.

Vice Mayor Minto Esther McCartney

Description: For over 55 years, MOWGSD has been delivering meals to homebound seniors throughout San Diego County.   Founded in 1960, MOWGSD was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit in 1970.  MOWGSD continues to be the only organization in San Diego County that delivers meals to seniors for every day of the year, including holidays.  Four Service Centers and a Meal Center are strategically located throughout San Diego County and cover the North County, South County, East County and City of San Diego.  MOWGSD also serves the 3,049 square miles of rural and unincorporated areas.  For calendar year 2014, MOWGSD served over 3,100 seniors using 2,600 volunteers who delivered 406,932 meals.
