Environmental Health Coalition
Mission Statement: Environmental Health Coalition (EHC) is dedicated to environmental and social justice. We organize and advocate to protect public health and the environment threatened by toxic pollution. EHC supports efforts that create a just society and foster a healthy and sustainable quality of life.
Advancing Health and Wellness: EHC works to improve health in low-income communities adversely affected by pollution. Our programs address air pollution from industry and vehicles, and health threats from lead, mildew, pesticides and cleaning products. We promote safe streets and outdoor spaces for active living.
Description: EHC has improved the quality of its health services through an innovative approach that stresses the development of community cohesion as our staff organizers and health promotoras reach out to families to provide services and information. Our organizers and promotors are peer educators who work directly in homes and neighborhoods. They reach people for whom isolation represents a significant obstacle to health, alongside environmental risk factors. Isolation may result from poverty, language, culture, low literacy, immigration status, and unfamiliarity with laws and rights.
