Leading AHF through Great Periods of Growth

As we close out our fiscal year, we’re reflecting on the work behind and ahead of us, as we seek to improve health and well-being for those in under-resourced communities in our region. Notably, we are giving a shoutout to our Executive Director, Sarah Lyman. During Sarah’s five years with AHF, she has led us through great periods of growth, both in our funding portfolio and the work toward our vision for universal health equity in the San Diego and Imperial County region.  Sarah has directed and overseen approximately $34 million in funding into communities, initiatives, and impact investments. Over the same period, AHF has helped catalyze $92.2 million in additional aligned funding for important community initiatives.  AHF’s impact investment portfolio has grown by 125% during this period with $5.4 million currently committed to program and mission related investments.

Sarah has also led us in shifting toward greater trust-based philanthropy in our approach, including multi-year core operating grants, bringing on resident leaders to contribute their lived experience to the Innovation Initiative (i2) Milestone-based Challenge Grant program, and most notably our evolving equitable partnership with the Imperial Valley Wellness Foundation. Capping off these past five years, is the 2024 recognition by the Nonprofit Institute at University of San Diego who awarded AHF with the inaugural Trust Award for Excellence in Philanthropy and Governance.

Join us in celebrating Sarah Lyman. We’re excited to be on this journey together!
