“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” – Winston Churchill
You know about Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but have you heard of Giving Tuesday?
Think about how many ads you’ve seen for either Black Friday deals or Cyber Monday blowouts this holiday season. Did you see 10? Fifteen? More than 20?
Regardless of the specific number, I’m sure you’ve seen plenty of flashy advertisements showcasing a hot deal on a new laptop or television for the holiday season. Now, think about this: How many ads did you see for Giving Tuesday?
If you’ve had a similar experience as mine, you’ve probably only seen one or two.
Giving Tuesday gets swept under the rug during this time of year, yet it’s perhaps the most impactful and important day during this stretch of post-Thanksgiving madness.
According to a recent report from MarketingCharts.com, more Americans are donating online than ever before, an understandable trend given our increasing reliance on electronic devices and the Internet in our day-to-day lives.
With Giving Tuesday, we can apply this trend to make a difference in our community.
Tomorrow, join others in standing united for a cause. Pick something important to you, something that affects your community members or those closest to you. Research their web pages and donating guidelines, and make a donation.
Then, help others do the same. Share the link to Giving Tuesday’s official website, and post about it on social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #GivingTuesday. If you’re feeling super inspired and you want to get involved as an official partner of Giving Tuesday’s for next year, you can learn more about that here, too!
If you’re not in a financial position to make a donation, spread the word any way you can! You can still help by bringing attention to a cause or a charity that is close to you, and you can still leverage your social media power to make this Giving Tuesday the most effective one to date.
The trends say we’re using our online power more than ever to help those in need.
Tomorrow, let’s prove the trends right.
And remember: Giving Tuesday offers a great opportunity to help others, but giving back doesn’t have to stop tomorrow. Make an effort, a New Years Resolution if you’d like, to become a more charitable person!
