Mission Statement: At Angels we passionately and collaboratively care for children five and younger with diverse and exceptional families who dedicate themselves to each child’s well-being. We focus on the stable placement of children with nurturing families who foster.
Advancing Health and Wellness:
At Angels we serve the youngest victims of child abuse and neglect by placing them in healthy, loving and stable homes. Unlike traditional foster care, Angels places only one child or sibling set with each of our families, and each family commits to the stable care of the child(ren) until decided otherwise by the County or Juvenile Court. Research clearly demonstrates that repeated broken attachments (i.e. moves) to a different primary caregiver during the critical first three years of life stunts normal brain growth and healthy development. This causes children to be more prone to significant mental health issues (anxiety/depression), in additional to challenges with attachment and bonding. Our program stops this endless cycle of instability and promotes healing attachment that leads to healthy growth and development.
Description:
In 2013, Angels transitioned from a founder-led organization to one led by a professional staff and governed by an independent Board of Directors. Since this transition, the organization has nearly doubled the number of children in our care and is the largest private provider of foster homes in San Diego County. Angels has 13 FT and two PT staff of which seven are Clinical Case Managers (CCM). Each CCM possesses a Master’s Degree and are licensed or pursuing their license as a Marriage Family Therapist or as a Social Worker. Our Executive Director, Jeff Wiemann, has a proven track record of creating and sustaining high performing organizations and was an Angels foster parent before joining the staff. Our Program Director, Sara Lucchini, has been with Angels for over 13 years and was a Clinical Case Manager prior to her current position. Our Foster Parent Educator (Elizabeth Perlin) and our Community Relations Specialist (Lani Barnes) are also former Angels foster parents.
