Grant program recognizes San Diego and Imperial County non-profits that are advancing health and wellness locally

San Diego, CA (October 22, 2012) – Alliance Healthcare Foundation (AHF), a nonprofit organization working to advance health and wellness for those in need in San Diego and Imperial Counties, announced today that it is now accepting applications for its Mission Support Grants program through November 14, 2012 with awards totaling $1,000,000. The winners will be announced in February 2013.

In order to be considered for a Mission Support Grant, local non-profits are encouraged to demonstrate past and planned innovations, collaboration with other organizations and their unique role in improving health and wellness across San Diego and Imperial Counties.

“Organizations best poised to be selected as a Mission Support Grant recipient are those that are working to improve operations in terms of reduced costs, improved quality and/or greater capacity, as well as effective leadership and sustainability,” said Nancy Sasaki, executive director of AHF. “We look forward to learning more about all the great work local non-profits are doing to enhance the lives of the poor, working poor, children and homeless living in San Diego and Imperial County.”

Earlier this year, more than 80 non-profit organizations applied for AHF’s Mission Support Grants program, and 16 grants between $30,000 and $100,000 were awarded. Grant recipients were chosen through a detailed process involving AHF’s board of trustees, data analysis and community feedback.

“The $100,000 Mission Support Grant we received from AFH last June has enhanced our ability to help Somali and other African families become responsible, independent and contributing members of San Diego,” said Ahmed Sahid, president and CEO, of Somali Family Service of San Diego. “The much-needed funds have also helped us bolster critical programs designed to promote health, education, economic success and leadership skills; programs that are essential for helping our community thrive.”
