Mission Statement:
The Access Youth Academy is dedicated to transforming the lives of underserved youth through health and nutrition, academic enrichment, community service and leadership through squash.
Advancing Health and Wellness: Access Youth Academy’s 12-year promise and health and wellness pillar are unique. Of the 18 National Urban Squash and Education Association (NUSEA) member programs in the country, Access is the first to make such commitments to underserved students and their families. Both are examples of innovative improvements that recognize the social determinants of health and provide an effective support network following graduation from high school.
Description: Beginning in 7th grade, continuing through college and two years beyond, AYA makes an in-depth, highly personalized investment in underserved students to transform their lives, and make improved health choices. The Health and Wellness component of our program equips students with defined life skills in nutrition, stress management, self-discipline and healthy habits to achieve a balanced life in body, mind and spirit. Delivered through lessons and support from community health experts, practitioners, and Access staff over 46 weeks, we address both general & personalized lifestyle and wellness issues linked to adolescent students.
