Alliance Healthcare Foundation Awards Over $1 Million to 24 Local Nonprofits through Mission Support Grants Program

24 innovative non-profit organizations based in San Diego and Imperial Counties receive unrestricted funding

San Diego, CA (March 14, 2013) – Alliance Healthcare Foundation (AHF), a nonprofit organization working to advance health and wellness for those in need in San Diego and Imperial Counties, announced today that it will fund 24 local organizations through its Mission Support Grants program with awards totaling $1,060,000.

More than 100 non-profit organizations applied for AHF’s Mission Support Grants program. Grant recipients were chosen through a detailed process involving AHF’s board of trustees and program committee as well as the community. Of the 24 organizations receiving grants, 16 are located in San Diego County and eight in Imperial County.  To be considered in the competitive application process, local organizations were asked to demonstrate past and planned innovations, collaboration with other organizations, and their unique role in improving health and wellness across our region. Awarded grants range from $25,000 to $100,000.

“We received a record number of applications this year from many worthy organizations making the selection process quite difficult,” said Nancy Sasaki, Executive Director of Alliance Healthcare Foundation. “I was especially thrilled to see the growth of applicants from Imperial County. Eight of the 10 applying organizations were awarded funding which allowed us to meet our goal of supporting that region in a more targeted and strategic way. I’m tremendously proud to work with our Board of Trustees as we show our dedication to providing funding for both San Diego and Imperial Counties.”

Three of the 24 local non-profit organizations that received grants valued at $100,000 each include:

  • Embrace – Mobilizes college students to serve less fortunate members of civilian and veteran communities through service learning and volunteerism.
  • Info Line (2-1-1 San Diego) – Helps people by connecting them efficiently to the service delivery system and by providing vital trend information for community planning.
  • UCSD Student Run Free Clinic – In partnership with the community, provides accessible, quality healthcare for the underserved in a respectful environment in which students, health professionals, patients, and community members learn from one another.

“Alliance Healthcare Foundation’s Mission Support Grant funds will allow Athletes for Education to expand our wellness program throughout the community,” said Leslie Hermann, Executive Director of Athletes for Education. “This will provide us with the ability to improve the lives of San Diego’s underprivileged youth with much needed education and support, this opportunity is priceless. We’re tremendously grateful for AHF’s investment in our cause and look forward to continuing our efforts through this significant contribution.”
