Mission Statement: San Diego Hunger Coalition leads coordinated action to end hunger in San Diego supported by research, education and advocacy. Our vision is that everyone in San Diego County has enough food for an active, healthy life.
SDHC1
Advancing Health and Wellness: San Diego Hunger Coalition (SDHC) takes a multi-faceted approach to addressing food insecurity by working with community partners to embed food resources into existing infrastructure, making it easier for those who need help to get it. Federal nutrition programs like CalFresh and school meals are not only the most effective solutions to hunger, they are critical income support to working poor households. SDHC increases access to CalFresh by offering free training and technical assistance to community-based organizations and clinics that help people apply. We also strengthen and expand school meal programs for low-income children by working with school districts and youth groups to expand school, after-school and summer meal programs.
SDHC2
Description: SDHC’s work to increase food security and improve health for low-income San Diegans is a direct fit with Alliance Healthcare Foundation’s goal to advance health and wellness for those in need. All of the individuals served through our CalFresh and School Meals programs live
below 185% of the Federal Poverty Level and struggle to make ends meet. By developing innovative approaches to helping people access these programs, we are able to increase overall household budgets and make it easier for people to live healthier lives.
