At a recent post-holiday dinner with staff and our Board of Trustees, we took a moment to say goodbye to two members of the board who will be stepping down at the end of this month.
After five years of service, Stan Lewis is leaving Alliance Healthcare Foundation’s Board of Trustees and will be focusing his energy on our Program Committee, where he will help guide program funding and grantmaking decisions.
Stan moved to San Diego in 1979 and has a long and diverse history of public service. Lewis served as a Trustee of the San Diego Museum of Photographic Arts, and is a former co-chair of the San Diego Pride board of directors. Lewis also previously served as vice president of the San Diego Democratic Club, president of Dignity/San Diego and as a member of the Gay and Lesbian Advisory Board to the San Diego Chief of Police. He was previously Chief of Staff to former San Diego City Councilmember Valerie Stallings and a consultant to the City of San Diego Public Facility and Recreation Committee and is the former Director of HIV/AIDS Services for one of San Diego’s largest non-profit organizations. Stan has served on the Board of Trustees since 2012.
Mr. Lewis completed his BA in Accounting and Economics from Howard University in Washington DC and received his MBA in International Business from Bernard Baruch College, City University of New York. A long time community activist, Mr. Lewis is also a former appointee of the Governor of California to the California State Board of Chiropractic Examiners. Mr. Lewis is the father of two grown daughters and lives in the Encanto neighborhood with his spouse.
We will also be saying goodbye to Mary Lewis (no relation), who has decided to retire after serving one year on our Board of Trustees. Mary is the former Chief Financial Officer for the City of San Diego and also previously served Alliance Healthcare Foundation as our CFO. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Monarch School for homeless children and youth. Mary holds a Master’s Degree in Business from Columbia University and an MA in English Literature from the University of Missouri.
We thank Stan and Mary both for their service and for their dedication to improve the health and wellness of underserved populations in San Diego and Imperial Counties.
